In a fixed mindset students believe their basic abilities, their intelligence, their talents, are just fixed traits. ... In a growth mindset students understand that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, good teaching and persistence.

Raphela Junior School has embraced Carol Dweck's Growth Mindset- a powerful model for enhancing motivation. We know that pupils who have a positive attitude towards their learning will make good progress and be successful. When students believe they can get smarter, they understand that effort makes them stronger. Therefore they put in extra time and effort, and that leads to higher achievement. Consequently, instilling the 'growth mindsets' among all our pupils has become a key priority for our school.

We want all our pupils to relish challenges, embrace their mistakes as part of the learning process, value the importance of effort, respond carefully to feedback and take inspiration from others. This will help them to achieve, not only with us, but also in their future lives as adults.
We are very excited about the prospect of nurturing a growth mindset culture at Raphela Junior School.
